We emphasize that the certificates awarded are not certifications either of personal commitment to the spiritual journey or of competence as a spiritual director, but are simply recognitions of satisfactory completion of the stated requirements of the program. In relation to the Phase II certificate in particular, we affirm that the practice of spiritual companioning/direction is constituted by a call from God and authenticated by its fruits, and not by any formal certification.
