2- SoulGuiding
Formation as a Spiritual Director
with a focus on skills, practice and supervision
We build on the themes of Phase 1 (Year I),
and add three more:
the practice of spiritual
companioning: models, dynamics, philosophy;
discernment: how
we perceive and respond to the presence and action
of Spirit in our own lives and those of others;
ethics in the practice
of spiritual direction.
Components:
Two week-long intensives approximately
12 months apart.
Three response papers* (5-7 pages
each) on the Year 2 themes, with each paper demonstrating
a balance between reading/research and reflection
on your own experience.
Continued receiving of spiritual
direction/companioning.
A supervised practicum in the giving
of direction, including a
monthly peer-supervision group.
A four-day silent retreat.
A position paper (12-20 pages)
on your understanding of spiritual direction;
if, alternatively, it includes a right-brain element,
then a minimum of eight pages in accompanying
commentary/reflection.
At home,
in residence
Phase 2 begins with reading at home
in preparation for the first intensive, followed
by the at-home phase, and culminates in the second
intensive. The at-home work in this phase includes
receiving regular spiritual direction, the offering
of spiritual direction/companioning through a
supervised practicum, participation in the peer-supervision
group, writing of the response papers, the retreat
and a commitment to the deepening of personal
spiritual practice. It includes, as in Phase 1,
a midyear evaluation, after which once again you
and your reader/mentor will be in touch by phone
or Skype. Following the second intensive, you
will submit a position paper, including a plan
for your own continuing spiritual formation. A
certificate will be awarded by the Pacific Jubilee
Program to all who complete the requirements.
Eligibility
A maximum of 24 applicants will be
admitted to Phase 2, for which a new application
is required. The application form, downloadable
from this website, describes the process of application
and admission. Those
who believe that they have already, through previous
experiences and learnings, fulfilled the requirements
of Phase 1 may request that their participation
in Phase 1 as a prerequisite be waived.
For any applicant previously unknown
to the staff this includes an interview either
in person or by phone.
The first intensive for Phase 2 is May 5 - 12,
2012 at Naramata Centre.
